A Viper holds the information. A long time ago in NYC during prohibition, a Viper was a musician that would smoke marijuana. A rebel against an unfair system, the Viper became a new social hero and a code that helped real recognize real. The joints the Viper smoked were passed from one person to the next as a unit of cultural information.
We began in 2000 with a simple goal of releasing music to tell the history of marijuana. As a gate opener to cannabis reform, we did not keep the information to ourselves, we spread it. Viper Records was created to level an uneven playing field between artists and labels. A music industry in which information is not shared is unfair to the artist and the people who care about them. When the Twin Towers fell we knew that it was vital to protect artists that had a message. As our first signed artist took off we grew into a boutique indie label that would stand with all artists.
